Migrating from Ledger Nano S to Nano S Plus (or Newer Ledger Device)

In 2022, Ledger began retiring the Ledger Nano S and replacing it with the Ledger Nano S Plus. Although the Nano S can still function, it is no longer actively supported by Ledger, and its continued compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

Concordium will also phase out support for the Nano S, and future protocol updates will not be available for this device. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to upgrade to a Ledger Nano S Plus or another supported Ledger device.

Step-by-Step Migration Guide

  1. Obtain Your New Ledger Device

Purchase a Ledger Nano S Plus or a newer model from Ledger’s official store to ensure authenticity.

  1. Install the Latest Ledger Live

Download and install the latest version of Ledger Live from the official website. Make sure it’s fully updated before proceeding.

  1. Update Your New Device’s Firmware

Connect your new Ledger device and use Ledger Live to update its firmware to the latest version.

  • Open Ledger Live.

  • Go to My Ledger.

  • Follow the prompts to update the firmware.

  1. Recover Your Account Using Your Seed Phrase

When setting up the new device, choose “Recover from recovery phrase” and enter the same 24-word seed phrase you used on your Nano S.

:warning: It is crucial to use the correct recovery phrase. If you lose or enter the wrong one, your accounts cannot be recovered.

  1. Install the Concordium App

After recovery and firmware update:

  • Open Ledger Live and go to My Ledger.

  • Search for Concordium in the app catalog.

  • Click Install.

This installs the Concordium application on your new Ledger device.

  1. Open Concordium Desktop Wallet

Launch the Concordium Desktop Wallet and connect your new Ledger device.

  • Choose “Import account” or “Open existing account”.

  • Your Concordium account(s) should appear if the recovery phrase matches.

  1. Verify and Confirm

Once imported, verify that your accounts and balances are correct. You are now ready to use Concordium on your new Ledger device.
